WAGGA Cricket Association (WCA) could be forced to knock its grand final back a week if Cricket Australia gets its way.

Cricket Australia has apparently asked WCA to schedule a general bye over the weekend of March 28-29 to accommodate for the ICC World Cup final in Melbourne on the Sunday.

Wagga’s cricket grand final was played on March 29-30 this year.

WCA operations manager Grant Geaghan explained Cricket Australia believes the weekend general bye will help generate a crowd at the World Cup final.

“We’ve got to leave the grand final date vacant for the World Cup final,” Geaghan said.

“Cricket Australia asked us to do that so it looks like we might have to put our finals back a week.

“Originally we weren’t going to do it but apparently a few Wagga people have already got tickets and want to go to the World Cup.”
